Posted by Mike at November 28, 2004 12:35 AMI'm looking forward to the Phantom of the Opera movie this winter, since I have not seen the show in its entirety.
National Treasures might be good, at least for an afternoon matinee.
Lemony Snicket's should be enjoyable and give Harry Potter a run for its money.
The Mask 2 is coming out. It probably won't be as good as the first, but I'm going to see it anyway. Kevin Spacey is in it. Jim Carrey won't be.
I'm also looking forward to seeing Star Wars III, but that won't be out for months.
Posted by: Emily at November 28, 2004 07:09 PMhey mike, 2046 is out in dvd in singapore. if you want me to get you a copy, let me know. I have to check though if it comes with english subtitles; I'm not sure about that yet.
Posted by: sharon at November 28, 2004 07:59 PMLife Aquatic looks GREAT. Can't wait for that one. I also want to see Closer. I love Natalie Portman. and Spanglish. I'll see Oceans 12 'cause hubby wants to. I'm sure I'll enjoy it but I don't NEED to see it.
Posted by: JenBen at November 28, 2004 09:16 PMOh, want to see the Incredibles too
Posted by: JenBen at November 28, 2004 09:17 PMWell, I hadn't heard of "Bride & Prejudice", thanks. I'm a huge fan of "Pride & Prejudice".
Except the tagline it states here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361411/
"Bollywood meets Hollywood... And it's a perfect match"
This doesn't make sense considering the movie "Pride & Prejudice" is NOT Hollywood made. Hollywood has bunked up attempts to make Jane Austen novels into movies. The British ones are excellent. (Don't even get me started on the far superior "Emma" with Kate Beckinsale compared with the Gwyneth Paltrow Hollywood version.)
Anyway, as someone who was a member of the Cousteau Society throughout my childhood and through much of my 20s, and I not only named my parrot Jacq after watching the Amazon expedition, I saw Jacques Cousteau in person in New York Harbor in 1985. And I cried real tears when I heard of his death...
Well, I am terribly anxious to see "The Life Aquatic". It looks extremely cute.
Plus I love any sea-related movie, to be honest.
My one friend can't wait for "Oceans 12"... But I really thought "Oceans 11" was a bomb, I hardly thought there'd be a sequel. Or am I confusing it with something else? I know I never actually saw it.
But what is this big fascination with "The Incredibles"?? I keep hearing about it, but nobody actually says why they liked it.
Posted by: Chloe at November 30, 2004 12:17 AMi think the "bollywood meets hollywood" is not meant to be taken literally. just a catchy way to say "a bollywood-style film made for western audiences" - the first english speaking movie by aiswarya rai - former miss world or something...
i have no idea how successful ocean's 11 was, but i liked it...
haven't seen the incredibles, but the spongebob movie rocked...
Posted by: mike at November 30, 2004 08:38 AMThe Incredibles was great. I could've done without the cheesy sheep cartoon at the start of it, but it was great otherwise.
It's a superhero that uses 3-D animation. It's done very well. It's not just for kids. There is a lot of comedy, as well as action. It's very easy to forget you're watching an animated movie when you see it.
If you're not sure whether you'll like it, go see a matinee. But if you'd rather avoid the small children, go to a later showing.

It's not about search engine rank or advertising, either. It's about word-of-mouse, and presentation. More here

I am looking forward to see "house of flying daggers". Here's why :
In the latest chapter of Zhang Yimou's triumphant reinvention as an action filmmaker, Zhang Ziyi plays Mei, a blind courtesan who turns out to be a member of the Flying Daggers, a shadowy squad of assassins waging a guerilla insurgency against the corrupt and decadent government. She is pursued by two government deputies, Leo (Andy Lau) and Jin (Takeshi Kaneshiro), whose loyalties come into question as the chase turns into a love triangle. Everyone is engaged in several layers of deceit, and some of the third-act revelations are more likely to provoke laughter than gasps of amazement.
