i saw fahrenheit 9/11 and i thought it was masterfully made - although i do have some reservations about it...
true to form, moore made a powerful, yet entertaining documentary. the theatre was packed at 4pm on a sunday - pretty much all ages and the film got an ovation.
the most powerful part of the film was the part devoted to the ill-conceived war in iraq - the suffering and the way we were mislead. i do wish moore would have focused more on the administration's arrogance towards the international community.
my main reservation was with the discussion about the bush-saudi-bin laden link...call me dim, but what was the point? what is moore trying to imply - something truly sinister, or what...if anything, bush's allegiance is to the ultra rich - the most telling comment in the film was when bush, at a white tie dinner said: "some call you the elite; i call you my base." this part of the film struck me as much of the same kind of attack that people made about clinton - throw a bunch of innuendo and see what sticks...for moore to get points on this part, he would need to be more specific...
the other big omission is bush's horrible record on the environment...
forgetting the politics for a minute, as a film, it seemed to lack a center - a focus - just kind of ambled lazily from one topic to another...
the film's biggest virtue is that it lets people tell their own stories in their own words:parents of dead soldiers, soldiers, iraquis and the bush administration...
of course, in the end, there are so many reasons to vote against bush that it is largely a matter of emphasis and personal preference...
so, see the movie - regardless of your feelings on politics, i have a feeling people will be talking about this one for a while...
