norah jones: feels like home
best description i've heard comes from norah herself (from rolling stone): "look, i get why people like my music. it's easy to listen to, it's easy to digest. it's not offensive. i get it. it's also not genius. but i think it's where i'm supposed to be." a very nice followup. here's hoping she follows this one up with a very nasty followup.
nellie mckay: get away from me
perhaps, as pointed out by rolling stone (gee, pick up a magazine today, mike?), cleverly titled to reject comparisons with norah jones (whose debut was "come away with me" ) - where did this woman come from? crikey - i haven't heard the whole thing yet, but my jaw is still on the ground. how can someone be this young and this talented?
the bad plus: give
better than their previous...which everyone praised, and i kinda liked but i didn't quite "get" - included is a cover of black sabbath's iron man - which makes a nice juxtaposition w/their cover of abba's "knowing me, knowing you" on the cd i burned of them...
brad mehldau: anything goes
as good as it gets, jazz 2004
i'll give them all 5 stars - great beat and you can bug out to them...
all legally downloaded from iTunes...i should allow one of you to change my password and not tell me until next month! or put myself on an allowance...
